Aberdeen City Council unveils free insulation programme
Warmer Homes Aberdeen is managed and delivered in partnership between Scarf and the local authority and offers free loft, underfloor and cavity wall insulation for privately owned and rented properties which meet certain criteria.
This is the latest project of its type to be funded by the Scottish Government’s Home Energy Efficiency Projects for Scotland Area Based Schemes (HEEPS: ABS) funding which aims to improve the quality of housing across the country and continues both organisations’ aims of reducing both fuel poverty and carbon emissions. Householders will benefit from more energy efficient homes to help reduce their fuel spend, as a result of better insulation.
Properties that meet any one of the following criteria are eligible for the scheme: Council tax A-C, householders with a child under the age of five, anyone in receipt of state pension, any household within postcode area AB11 8-9 AB16 and AB24 as well as private landlords who rent out only one property.
Lawrence Johnston, operations manager at Scarf, said: “We are delighted to once again be partnering with Aberdeen City Council to deliver free insulation to homes across Aberdeen. We know from our many years’ experience in the field the benefits improved insulation can bring – not just in terms of savings on energy bills, but also how quickly homes heat up and how long warmth is retained.
“I would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible to get in touch as early as possible to ensure they don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity.”
Cllr Sandra Macdonald, Aberdeen City Council’s housing spokesperson, said: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with Scarf on this initiative and know from the interest and uptake in previous projects that insulation is a key issue for householders in Aberdeen.
“As a council we are committed to significant investment in improving our own housing stock and also to supporting wider energy efficiency drives. The impact on quality of life and the financial benefits are vitally important and I would encourage anyone who fits the criteria to take the opportunity to find out more.”
Contractor BCA Insulation is scheduled to begin work in September 2018 with the project accepting referrals until January 2019.
