Brian Roberts appointed new chief executive of Stirling Council

Stirling Council has appointed Brian Roberts as its new chief executive.

Brian Roberts, who has been serving as interim chief executive, will take on the role following over 30 years of experience at Stirling Council, bringing an exceptional depth of knowledge and dedication to the council and to Stirling.

He was appointed following a selection process overseen by a cross-party panel of councillors and will take up the post with immediate effect.

Mr Roberts joined the council as a trainee engineer in 1993, progressing his career through the Roads and Transport service. He became roads improvement manager and then senior manager for infrastructure in 2014, taking on wider responsibility for other services, including Sustainability, Planning & Building Standards, Regulatory Services and Corporate Assets.

In 2019, he was appointed chief operating officer infrastructure and environment which became executive director – place, with an expanded portfolio including economic development, culture and tourism, land, fleet and waste services. During this role, he led the delivery of the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal and major infrastructure projects, including the development of Kildean Business Park, Forthside and the emerging Stirling Studios complex.

He has twice stepped into the role of interim chief executive over the last 18 months.

I grew up in Stirling and have been privileged to have been able to spend my whole career with the council, working in my hometown serving the people and communities of the Stirling area.

“I know at first-hand the dedication and talent of colleagues across the organisation. I am proud to have the opportunity to lead an amazing team that is committed to public service and improving the lives of everyone throughout the Stirling area.

“I look forward to working together with our elected members, communities, businesses and partners to build on our achievements and meet the challenges ahead. I aim to lead changes that will improve the council and deliver the best possible outcomes for all our communities, with local residents and civic pride firmly at the heart of the services we deliver.

“We’ve got so much to be proud of across Stirling, but I know there is still much more we need to do to unlock our potential and make our area a better place to live, work and visit.”
