Bridgewater celebrates accreditation as a Scottish Living Wage Employer

Bridgewater Housing Association (BHA) has proudly announced its formal accreditation as a Living Wage Employer, reaffirming its long‑standing commitment to fair pay and investment in the people who make the organisation flourish.

For nearly 28 years, BHA has been part of the fabric of the Erskine community, providing quality homes, supporting local residents, and creating meaningful, local employment opportunities. The Living Wage accreditation marks another significant milestone in its continued effort to ensure staff are recognised, valued, and fairly rewarded for the important work they do.

The real Living Wage is an independently calculated rate based on the cost of living and is voluntarily paid by over 16,000 UK employers. This commitment ensures that everyone working at BHA, regardless of whether they are directly employed or contracted, will earn a wage that meets everyday needs.

BHA’s accreditation also reinforces its dedication to local investment in people, particularly through its successful Modern Apprentice programme. By helping young people in and around Erskine gain skills, experience, and confidence, BHA is playing an active role in supporting the next generation of housing professionals.

Andy Thomson, chief executive of Bridgewater Housing Association, said: “Becoming an accredited Living Wage Employer reflects exactly what Bridgewater stands for, fairness, dignity, and opportunity. By providing a wage that meets the real cost of living, we are fulfilling our charitable purpose to support those in our community and ensuring we remain a compassionate, community-anchored organisation.

“Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and ensuring they are paid a wage they can live on is simply the right thing to do. We are also incredibly proud of the pathways we are creating locally through our Modern Apprentice programme, ensuring young people in our community have real opportunities to learn, grow, and build their futures.”

Alison McManus, director of corporate services, added: “This accreditation sends a clear message: we invest in our staff because their contribution is vital to the work we do for the people of Erskine. Paying the real Living Wage is an important part of being a responsible employer, and it aligns perfectly with our values and our long-term commitment to the community we serve.”

Bridgewater Housing Association is now encouraging other organisations, large or small, to consider the positive impact that paying a fair living wage can have on their teams and their communities.
