A group of people who live or work in the Possilpark area of Glasgow have set up a Community Development Trust to regenerate the area.

Positive Possilpark People’s Trust has grown out of a partnership between Hawthorn Housing Co-operative, Young People’s Futures, Stepping Stones for Families, Barnardo’s and Possobilities. Between them they have been working in Possilpark for well over 100 years.

Robert Stewart, a long term resident of Possilpark said: “The Trust provides a community led vehicle for the regeneration of the area and is a partnership of people who live in the area with people who work for well-established organisations that provide services for this community.”

The top priority for the Trust is to build a new Family and Community Centre in the area. Robert added: “We have just about completed a feasibility study and business plan for building a high quality centre and are exploring sources of funding for the centre. It is looking really positive so far and it would provide a huge benefit for people living in Possilpark.”

The centre would be owned and managed by the Trust. Although the centre is the top priority for the Trust, it will have a much wider role for the broader regeneration of the area.

Robert said: “We have seen what other trusts have achieved and we are ambitious to achieve real improvements in the Possilpark area through the Trust.”

The Trust has been receiving support from the Scottish Development Trusts Association and has held a series of public meetings to get the views of people who live in the area on the improvements they would like to see and is keen to speak with anyone who is interested in getting involved or has ideas about how they would like to see the area improved.

Anyone wanting to speak to the Trust can contact Colin Turnbull on 0141 336 2138 or colin@hawhousing.co.uk.
