Alan Somerville, senior development officer at Cunninghame Housing Association (CHA), recently presented a £1,000 cheque to Annan The History Town Group, a proactive community organisation committed to celebrating and enhancing the town’s rich heritage.

Operating for over half a decade, the group’s initiatives include improving the public realm, promoting heritage interpretation within Annan, and staging an annual Summer Festival, now entering its third year, to be held in July and August 2023.

This generous donation from Cunninghame Housing Association will assist towards the group’s three forthcoming ‘Annan Through the Ages’ exhibitions, forming a key part of this year’s Summer Festival. The displays aim to shine a spotlight on three distinct aspects of Annan’s past: Independent Grocers and Supermarkets, School Memories, and Industries and Buildings.

Lesley Keenan, chairperson of CHA, said: “We are delighted to be able to give financial support to Annan The History Town Group’s Summer Festival.

“After the success of earlier years and the feedback they have received it has proven to become an important date in the calendar for the community.

“They are giving an enjoyable day for all while learning about the town’s rich heritage.”

The donation originates from the association’s ‘Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund,’ which operates annually from 1 April 1 to March 31 until the pooled resources are fully utilised.
