Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP) took part in Macmillan’s World Biggest Coffee Morning last week and raised a total of £1,650.

Staff at the region’s largest housing association raised £822.41 through various events, held in DGHP offices in Dumfries, Annan, Castle Douglas and Stranraer. Donations were also contributed by text.

DGHP then matched the amount raised, taking the grand total to £1,650, from staff and tenants across the region.

Jayne Moore, DGHP’s director of housing services, said: “I’m absolutely delighted, and quite taken aback, that everyone raised so much money.

“This is an amazing achievement by everyone who took part - and we had some fabulous cakes, scones, tray bakes and treats that would give the contestants of the British Bake Off a run for their money!!

“Anyone who has either lived with cancer, or been affected by someone with cancer, will know that Macmillan provides the best of help including an amazing website full of technical and practical information as well as resourcing nursing care and support in many different forms.

“Sadly the statistics reveal that 1 in 3 of us have or will be ‘touched’ by cancer at some point in our lives– and for that reason DGHP decided to match the wonderful efforts of our staff. I’d like to thank everyone who took part and for their contribution to our total.”

A total of £1,023 could pay for a Macmillan Nurse for one week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support. Furthermore, £546 could pay for a Macmillan Support Worker for one week, helping people living with cancer receive the support they need.
