First plans approved for Taylor Wimpey’s Bannock Wood development
Midlothian Council has approved the first of Taylor Wimpey East Scotland’s Applications for Matters Specified in Conditions (AMSCs) for the new Bannock Wood neighbourhood near Bonnyrigg.
This approval, covering the essential infrastructure required to support the development, marks a major milestone in bringing this significant new community forward. With infrastructure approval now secured, Taylor Wimpey East Scotland is progressing towards the remaining consents and technical approvals.
As Bannock Wood, Bonnyrigg continues to move forward, the development will deliver a substantial range of benefits for the local community, including:
- Around 1,000 new homes, offering a choice of detached, semi-detached and terraced properties to appeal to a wide range of buyers
- Provision of open space
- 25% affordable homes and apartments
- New cycleways, pedestrian footpaths, and the realignment of parts of the existing bridleway and core path to encourage green, active travel and connect with neighbouring communities
- Protection and enhancement of Little Wood to create a green corridor across the development, with new paths linking to existing informal routes
- Key transport infrastructure improvements, including two new roundabouts at A6094/Rosewell Road and B6392/Burnbrae Terrace, and provision for a bus route through the development
- A new public park, Dalhousie Chesters Park, featuring an equipped play area.
Pauline Mills, technical director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “Securing approval for this AMSC to deliver a programme of infrastructure works is a significant and positive step for Bannock Wood. It allows us to move confidently towards delivering the first new homes and realising our long-term vision for this new neighbourhood.
“We will continue to work closely with Midlothian Council on the remaining applications and look forward to progressing the next stages of the development. With work already underway to deliver the new roundabout at Rosewell Road, infrastructure works will begin in the coming weeks. It’s an exciting time as Bannock Wood moves from vision to delivery.”
