Govan resident celebrated at National Good Practice Awards
David Wright
A Govan resident who is helping to transform local streets has been commended on a national level, with Govan Housing Group celebrating his success at the TPAS Scotland 2026 National Good Practice Awards.
The resident, David Wright, was selected as the runner-up for the ‘Alan Ferguson Tenant of the Year Award’.
For two years, Wright has developed a strong reputation in the area, regularly picking litter and keeping the streets of Govan presentable and welcoming.
Wright, who lives with multiple sclerosis, has contributed towards making a visible difference within the neighbourhood.
Initially, his efforts started as a small step to enhance his local surroundings but it quickly developed into a daily activity, driven by a passion for giving back.
Through his work, Wright has developed a rapport with local residents, shops and services, encouraging other Govan residents to take pride in their local area.
Wright said: “Govan is my home. It’s a place full of character and people who look out for each other. I never set out to be recognised, I just wanted to help, but it means a lot. If everybody does a little, it really can make a big difference.
“Seeing the difference you can make, even just in one street, is what keeps me going. People stop and chat, say thank you, and you can see the pride coming back into the area. That’s what it’s all about.”
David serves a key role in influencing local services as a member of the Govan Tenant Service Scrutiny Group, ensuring tenants’ voices have an impact on the work of Govan Housing Group.
Caron Quinn, chief executive of Govan Housing Group, said: “David represents the very best of Govan. His pride in the area, his determination and his kindness towards others are an inspiration. We see first-hand the positive difference he makes every single day, and for him to be recognised at a national level is fantastic for him and for Govan as a whole. We are incredibly proud to have David as part of our community.”
Maxine Hendry, community engagement officer at Govan Housing Group, said: “David’s impact on Govan has been incredible to witness. From the moment we first met, it was clear how committed he was to making a difference. Day in, day out, he’s out in the community, leading by example and lifting the area. He’s not just improving the environment, he’s inspiring others across Govan to get involved and take pride in where they live.”
