Hebridean Housing Partnership becomes Living Pension Employer

Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) has been accredited as a Living Pension Employer.

Through its Living Pension commitment, HHP is raising the standard for pension savings so its employees can afford to live with dignity in retirement.

Hebridean Housing Partnership Limited became a Registered Social Landlord on 12th September 2006 following the transfer of the Comhairle’s housing stock. It is a charitable, not-for-profit housing association registered with the Scottish Housing Regulator, governed by a Board of up to 15 members managing over 2400 rentable properties across the Outer Hebrides.

The Living Pension is a voluntary savings target for employers who want to help workers, especially those on low pay, build up a pension pot that will provide enough income to meet basic everyday needs in retirement. It launched in March 2023.

This builds on auto-enrolment and a minimum contribution level set by the government. Through auto-enrolment, employers must contribute at least 3%, and workers pay the remaining 5%.

The Living Pension savings target is 12% of a full time Living Wage worker’s salary, made up of a minimum 7% employer contribution. The Living Pension savings target can also be met as a cash amount of £2,950 a year. The employer contributes at least £1,720 to this cash amount.

Dena Macleod, chief executive, Hebridean Housing Partnership, said: “Achieving Living Pension accreditation is more than a badge of honour for us - it’s a reflection of our goal to be an excellent employer. We want to ensure our people are not only supported in their roles but are also able to look to the future with confidence. We know the difference it can make in people’s lives - now and in retirement.”

Katherine Chapman, director of the Living Wage Foundation, added: “We are delighted that HHP has signed up as a Living Pension employer, providing stability and security for their workers now and in the future. Over the last ten years, the Living Wage campaign has grown in strength and numbers. Now paid by nearly 16,000 employers, it delivers essential pay rises to almost half a million workers every year. The Living Pension builds on this by encouraging employers like HHP to do more to help their workers build a pension pot that meets basic everyday needs in retirement.”
