The association started business on 12 September 2006 after tenants voted to move to a new landlord.

It has grown into a well-established Registered Social Landlord serving communities throughout the islands and delivering on its commitment to tenants and local communities.

Over the past two decades, HHP has built 774 homes for social rent and shared equity across the Outer Hebrides, invested £62.8 million in existing tenants’ homes, and provided more than 4,000 tenancies, helping individuals and families access safe, secure and affordable housing.

As part of its commitment to tackling fuel poverty and improving housing quality, HHP has invested significantly in energy efficiency measures including improvements to building fabric, renewable heating technologies and high-efficiency heating systems.

Throughout its history, HHP has supported local charities, community groups and initiatives across the islands through fundraising, donations and partnership working.

To mark its 20th anniversary, HHP has launched a new £20,000 Community Fund which will support projects and organisations throughout the Outer Hebrides, reinforcing the organisation’s long-standing commitment to the communities it serves.

The fund is open to charities, tenant and residents’ groups, and voluntary organisations, with applications invited for projects that deliver a clear benefit to HHP tenants and local communities.

Applications are now open and will be assessed by HHP’s Tenant Board Panel, with successful projects announced later this year.

The fund is designed to support a wide range of community initiatives, helping local organisations deliver projects that improve wellbeing, strengthen communities and create opportunities for those living throughout the islands. The anniversary celebrations provide an opportunity to reflect on the achievements made since stock transfer and the positive impact that investment in housing has had across the islands.

HHP chief executive, Dena Macleod, said: “The last 20 years have demonstrated the difference having a standalone housing association can make in a community and I see these years as the foundation for the future.

“We will learn from what we got wrong and also from the new opportunities in our world to make sure there is a vibrant and sustainable housing association around in the Outer Hebrides to celebrate many more milestones.”
