Persimmon Homes North Scotland has selected Fife artist Ian Moir to design and deliver a new public artwork at the company’s Castle Park development in Coaltown of Wemyss.

Fife Council’s housing spokesperson, Cllr Judy Hamilton, joined Persimmon Homes North Scotland head of customer care, Louise Scott, on site to unveil Ian as the successful artist following a competitive selection process that invited proposals from local creatives.

Ian, who runs the Fire Station Creative gallery in Dunfermline, will now work closely with the Coaltown of Wemyss Community Council and Persimmon’s design and construction teams as he brings his artwork to life. The installation will form a permanent feature within the 125-home development, celebrating the village’s heritage while contributing to its future identity.

The artwork commission is part of Persimmon’s wider investment in Coaltown of Wemyss, where the Castle Park development is delivering 125 high-quality, energy-efficient two-, three- and four-bedroom homes alongside community benefits including public open space, funding for local schools, and improvements to local play facilities.

Louise Scott, Persimmon Homes North Scotland’s head of customer care, said: “We are delighted to announce Ian Moir as the artist for this important community project. His creativity, local connections, and passion for celebrating place make him an excellent fit for Castle Park. We look forward to working with Ian and the Community Council to deliver a piece of public art the village can be proud of.”

Ian Moir said: “I’m proud that my design was chosen for this site. As a Fifer, the local landscape and history have long inspired my work. Citizen Spire is intended as a place to pause and reflect, drawing on local symbols and shared heritage, and I hope it becomes a meaningful landmark and meeting point for the community.”

Cllr Judy Hamilton added: “It’s wonderful to see the site coming to life with new homes. Ian’s artwork will complement the development, creating a meeting point that celebrates the village’s heritage while bringing the community together and looking to the future.”
