Lovell helps Winchburgh community groups tool up

Housebuilder Lovell has teamed up with its supply chain to give volunteers in Winchburgh a welcome boost with more than £10,000 worth of tools and equipment.
The gifts will support the Winchburgh Community Growing Group and Builders Den to keep delivering projects across the village.
The donation forms part of the wider commitment from Lovell, working in partnership with Wheatley Group, to deliver the new Central Square development in Winchburgh. The £1 billion masterplan project will see 176 energy-efficient new homes including 69 for social rent with support from the Scottish Government and 107 for private sale by Lovell Homes.
The Winchburgh Community Growing Group has become a well-loved part of Winchburgh community, providing fresh fruit and vegetables and hosting creative events. The Builders Den, operated by Winchburgh Development Trust, which launched just this year, gives local people the chance to learn new skills, share time together and take part in community projects.
Recently a thief threatened to disrupt activity. Thanks to quick action from Lovell together with their suppliers, the replacement kit is now in place. The donation includes a portable petrol generator, security monitoring system, drill and screwdriver set, cordless hand sander, circular saw, water irrigation systems and polytunnel repair tape.
The support has been made possible thanks to contributions from Lovell as well as their supply chain partners Pitkerro, Safer Group, Ramsey Electric, Huws Gray and Barrie & Currie.
Tony Rankin, regional managing director at Lovell, said: “We’re dedicated to building communities as well as homes. When we heard about what had happened, we knew it was important to act quickly so volunteers could continue their fantastic projects without interruption. The Winchburgh Community Growing Group and Builders Den are about more than just somewhere to spend spare time they are about community and connection, and we’re very pleased to be supporting them.”
John West, Winchburgh Community Growing Group, said: “The theft could have been a real setback. Instead, we’ve seen first-hand what’s possible when organisations and local businesses step up to help. These tools will make a huge difference for our volunteers and the projects we can deliver. Thanks to Lovell and their suppliers, we’ve been able to replace everything. The garden and Builders Den are already thriving again, and it just shows the true strength of our community.”
Laura Henderson, managing director of Wheatley Homes East, said: “We’re delighted to see our partners at Lovell supporting groups that make such a positive difference in Winchburgh. The Growing Group and Builders Den are fantastic examples of community spirit in action.”
Chris Macdonald, commercial manager, Pitkerro plumbing & heating, said: “We are pleased to play our part in helping replace the stolen tools. Projects like the Growing Group and Builders Den bring real benefits to people in Winchburgh and it’s great to join Lovell in working with the community to ensure that continues.”
Ryan Clark, of Safer Group, said: “We’re proud to support the Winchburgh Community Growing Group and Builders Den in their efforts to deter future theft. We know the difference initiatives like these make to close-knit communities across the country, and we’re committed to helping them continue to flourish.”
