Milnbank awarded National Lottery Connecting Communities Funding
Milnbank Housing Association’s (MHA’s) Connecting Communities project was awarded £198,314 of National Lottery Community Funding.
The local community of Milnbank (and the local surrounding community of Dennistoun) are all located within the 20% most deprived datazones facing multiple challenges with income, employment, and health being of significant concern. MHA’s support is for anyone who needs it regardless of tenure.
Chris Chalk, director of housing and community initiatives, said: “A big thank you to National Lottery Community Funding which will enable MHA’s Connecting Communities Project, supported by Community Links, to strengthen social connections in the community by bringing local people together, provide accessible, inclusive support and ensure everyone can access the services they need.”
This funding will enable MHA to deliver a four-year programme that tackles poverty, loneliness and poor health by bringing people together through community hubs, a café, a low-cost pantry and a re-use and recycling shop. The project will provide affordable food, warm spaces, social groups, promote health and wellbeing, and provide money and energy advice.
Around 825 local people across Dennistoun and Haghill will benefit, along with 50 volunteers who will gain confidence, skills and new opportunities through training and active involvement.
The work will also include improvements to Ballindalloch Community Hall to make it more welcoming, accessible and flexible for various types of use. This project is designed to strengthen relationships across the community, reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and promote dignity through affordable food access.
