Milnbank invests in safer tenements
Stone works carried out at Cardross
Milnbank Housing Association (MHA) is making progress with a major programme of stonework repairs across its traditional sandstone tenements, helping to protect residents and preserve local buildings for the future.
Since December 2025, MHA has co-ordinated 27 stonework projects with an overall value of £435,000. Around 80% of the urgent repairs identified across the programme are now complete, representing strong progress in protecting residents and maintaining MHA’s traditional sandstone tenements.
The remaining urgent projects are being progressed in phases, with work expected to be completed by February 2027. This includes £298,000 of planned investment, alongside a further £40,000 invested in smaller, reactive repairs where problems required prompt attention.
At Cardross Street, MHA has initiated a phased programme of comprehensive repairs and completed one MHA-owned tenement block, with work underway at another. The completed project has improved the building’s appearance and will help inform future phases. MHA’s factoring subsidiary, Milnbank Property Services (MPS), will work with owners on consultation and grant funding applications.
Looking ahead, the asset team and MPS are planning repairs to another 12 tenement blocks during spring and summer 2027. Regular building surveys will continue to identify concerns quickly, supported by MHA’s specialist stonemasonry contractor framework to ensure high-quality work and value for money.
Rose Tinney, chair, said: “Tenant safety remains our highest priority. Residents should never approach, touch or attempt to remove loose or damaged stonework. If you notice cracks, movement, falling debris or any other concern, keep well clear of the area and report it to MHA immediately so it can be inspected and made safe.
“This ongoing investment will help protect residents, maintain their homes and secure the long-term future of MHA’s sandstone tenements.”
