New Gorbals Housing Association to celebrate summer of sport at annual fair

New Gorbals Housing Association is urging locals to grab their kit and head to Gorbals Fair on Saturday to celebrate a summer of sport.

The theme for this year’s Big Gorbals Parade is a celebration of community and sport, with all Gorbals gatherers asked to join in with banners, props and costumes to commemorate the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2026 World Cup.

The Big Gorbals Parade will leave from Crossroads Barn at 11.15am, making its way to Gorbals Piazza, where Des Clarke will officially open the Fair at 12 noon.

This year, fair goers can look forward to two stages packed full of performances from local acts. The main stage will be in Gorbals Piazza, with a second stage in the Rose Garden this year.

Local groups like Givin it Laldie and the Citizen’s Theatre Community Collective make a return to the stage, with dance groups like Be Fabulous and Bollywood Dance Group performing too. Brand new for 2026 is a Space Ceilidh, led by Blackfriars Primary School and the Science Ceilidh Band.

Gorbals Fair is made possible thanks to a number of community partners pulling together to plan the fair, lead activities and seek funding where appropriate.

Michael Fullerton, community co-ordinator at New Gorbals Housing Association, said: “Building on our successes over the past few years, the Gorbals Fair planning team felt it was fitting to focus this year’s parade on a sporting celebration.

“With Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games activities being held just a stone’s throw from the Gorbals, we wanted to bring people together from all cultures in our community as well as through their love for different sports.

“We are also excited to raise the bar with an additional performance stage at the Rose Garden and some new activities like the Science Ceilidh to look forward to. We hope lots of Gorbals residents will join us for the Big Gorbals Fair this year.”

The full event takes place from 11.15am when the parade leaves, through to 4pm, giving fair-goers plenty of time to enjoy all the activities and performances on offer in the multiple fair venues.

Blackfriars Primary School grounds will once again be home to the funfair, with the price of rides frozen at 50p per go. For those with World Cup fever, a football tournament will take place here from 1pm.

At the Rose Garden, all ages are catered for, from Giggle n Grow sessions for toddlers to family sports from Glasgow Life and even Northern Soul Dancing for the adults.

Food will be available at multiple locations, starting with breakfast at Crossroads Barn at 10am, with activities and entertainment from 12 noon at Gorbals Piazza, Gorbals Parish Church, Gorbals Library, the Rose Garden and Blackfriars Primary School.

The full programme of events is available to view on the New Gorbals Housing Association website.
