New Gorbals staff help keep Clyde clean
New Gorbals Housing Association (NGHA) has joined the Big Clyde Clean up as part of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Spring Clean this month.
The litter pick, in partnership with Glasgow City Council, will see volunteers meet at 12 Commercial Court on Friday 17th April to litter pick around the Riverside area. Litter pickers will make their way along the riverside to the St Andrews suspension bridge before heading back to NGHA’s office for a light lunch.
Local resident and volunteer Veronica shares why she’s taking part: “Living in the high flats you see things in a different way from just walking around, and the amount of rubbish blowing into our river is getting worse.
“So instead of just moaning about it I decided to do something about it!”
The Big Clyde Clean Up aims to improve the river corridor by tackling litter and pollution, via a range of local and regional clean-up activities along the length of the river.
Susan Burn, tenant participation officer at NGHA, said: “We are delighted to take part in such a positive campaign to help clean up the Clyde, especially
to help make a difference to our tenants living in the Riverside area.
“Our monthly litter picks are a regular fixture in the Tenant Participation calendar, so it makes sense for us to align with partners to help clean up the Clyde corridor.
“As a Keep Scotland Beautiful Litter Pick Hub, we welcome volunteers to any of our Spring Clean litter picks, or to arrange their own picks with the equipment we have available.”
As part of the wider Spring Clean campaign from Keep Scotland Beautiful, NGHA will be conducting litter picks every Friday between 13th March and 24th April, when the campaign ends.
Each litter pick will be held in a different area of Gorbals, in partnership with other local organisations such as Adelphi Nursery and Oatlands Community Hub. The Association will provide a light lunch after each pick.
