Over 70 organisations come together for No Wrong Door event in Glasgow

More than 70 organisations joined Glasgow City Council’s treasurer and depute leader, Ricky Bell and the Scottish Government’s cabinet secretary for social justice, Shirley-Anne Somerville, in Glasgow during Challenge Poverty week to press forward on child poverty.

The event marked the continued growth of the No Wrong Door network, launched in 2023 under the Glasgow Child Poverty Pathfinder. The network now brings together over 200 organisations from the housing, public and third sectors, creating a connected support system for families experiencing poverty.

Backed by the Scottish Government’s Best Start, Bright Futures plan, the Glasgow Programme aims to reduce poverty and transform how services support families, putting prevention, early intervention and person-centred support at the heart of the system.

Participants focused on how early intervention and prevention can make a difference and help families move towards long-term stability while easing pressures on individual services. A workshop led by Martina Johnston-Gray of the North West Glasgow Voluntary Sector Network explored how access to devices and networks can open doors to income, education, health and opportunity. She highlighted that for those without internet access, even finding a free meal can be a challenge, underscoring the need to close the digital divide to achieve true equality.

Attendees also heard from Jan McCaig of the Scottish Child Law Centre, who discussed Children’s Rights and Access to Justice, examining what rights violations mean in practice for families and how the Centre’s free, confidential legal advice can help.

Through the No Wrong Door Network, Glasgow is showing that systemic change is both possible and essential.  Families shouldn’t face closed doors or have to repeat their stories when seeking help.
