Plans submitted for homes at former Anniesland sawmill
CCG (Scotland) Ltd, Partick Housing Association, and Hanover Scotland have submitted plans to build 50 flats on the site of a former sawmill in Anniesland.
The plans concern the vacant land between Bearsden Road and Crow Road, which once housed the Temple Hills Sawmill.
The three hope to demolish the former Canal Bar and Restaurant, which have been unused since 2004 and build 46 one and two-bedroom affordable flats spread across two blocks.
When the development in finished, 24 amenity flats will exist within the development which will be designed especially for older people. The amenity flats will be managed by Hanover.
‘The Sawmills’ development will also offer a combination of private and communal green space and resident parking, The Glasgow Times reports.
Calum Murray, CCG director, said: “The proposals for ‘The Sawmills’ were derived after an extensive period of assessment by our design team who tested and exhausted every avenue to retain the building – a part of which is category C-listed.
“Our assessment evidenced that, because of the significant state of disrepair, the retention of the building in any form was not economically viable. Instead, the building will be replaced by a contemporary and sustainable low-carbon development that will address key strategic objectives of Glasgow City Council by improving the supply of affordable housing in the west of the City.”
