Street Soccer Scotland will be the official charity partner of the returning SPFL Tennent’s Sixes at Braehead Arena in Glasgow this weekend.
The iconic indoor tournament returns for the first time in 33 years, with legends’ teams from all 12 Premiership clubs competing over two days. Street Soccer joins tournament partners the SPFL, Tennent’s, Premier Sports and Braehead Arena, with matches shown live on Premier Sports.
Fans will get the opportunity to learn more about the work of Street Soccer in local communities across Scotland and how they tackle social isolation, homelessness, problem substance use and adverse mental health through the power of football.
Before Sunday’s final, the development squads for Team Scotland Men’s and Women’s teams, who will represent their country at the 2026 Homeless World Cup in Mexico City, will take on a Celebrity Select side in an exhibition match.
The Celebrity Select line-up features singer Nathan Evans and the Saint PHNX band, broadcaster Gordon Smart, rapper Bemz, actor and comedian Sanjeev Kohli, Scot Squad star Chris Forbes, Altered Images singer Clare Grogan, actor Hannah Jarrett-Scott, sports presenter Eilidh Barbour, wildlife filmmaker Libby Penman and social media personality Bash the Entertainer.
For the Team Scotland players, all of whom have come through Street Soccer’s weekly drop-in sessions and personal development programmes, it’s an opportunity to play in front of a sold out arena and a live TV audience ahead of the biggest tournament of their lives at the Homeless World Cup in Mexico.
Fans will have the chance to buy a piece of history at the event through Street Soccer’s social enterprise Kitback, which will be set up in the foyer of the arena with hundreds of pre-loved football shirts for sale.
Everyone attending is also asked to bring a football shirt of their own that they no longer wear to donate to the initiative. Donated shirts are upcycled and resold, with 100% of profits supporting Street Soccer’s community programmes.
Street Soccer founder & CEO David Duke MBE said: “The Tennent’s Sixes is part of Scottish football folklore, and to be the charity partner for its return is a proud moment for everyone at Street Soccer. Football has given our players somewhere to belong, and this weekend they get to be part of one of Scotland’s biggest footballing events. Seeing our Team Scotland squads walk out in front of a full arena before the final will be special.”
Gerry Britton, chief operating officer of Street Soccer, who won the last Tennent’s Sixes with Partick Thistle in 1993, said: “The last time the Sixes was played I was in a Partick Thistle shirt, and we went home with the trophy. I never imagined I’d be back 33 years later, this time with Street Soccer.
“The Sixes was always about fast, fearless football with fans packed in close to the action. That’s what our players love about the game too. Having Street Soccer players on the same stage as the SPFL club legends shows what impact football can have when it opens its doors to everyone.”
Russell Smith, CEO, Braehead Arena, said: “We are incredibly proud to welcome Street Soccer Scotland as the official charity partner of the returning SPFL Tennent’s Sixes. The work that David, Gerry and the entire Street Soccer team do across communities in Scotland is truly inspiring, using the power of football to create opportunities, build confidence and change lives.
“As we prepare to host the first Tennent’s Sixes in 33 years at Braehead Arena, it is fitting that the event leaves a lasting legacy beyond the pitch. We look forward to welcoming Street Soccer’s players, volunteers and supporters to what promises to be a memorable weekend and thank them for being such an important part of the tournament’s return.”
