Taylor Wimpey secures planning permission for 125 new homes in Barrhead

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has been granted planning permission by East Renfrewshire Council to deliver 125 new homes that will form a key part of the Barrhead South Masterplan.
The housebuilder has also confirmed that pre-construction work is already underway.
Springhill Gardens will feature a variety of three, four, and five-bedroom homes. The development will also introduce a new range of homes that Taylor Wimpey plans to build in Scotland, ensuring high-quality living spaces for future homeowners. It will also offer a selection of homes from its Caledonian Collection, featuring spacious four- and five-bedroom detached homes.
As part of Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s environmental strategy, Springhill Gardens will feature new homes equipped with air-source heat pumps, as the development is gas-free, a first for its local developments in East Renfrewshire, making it easier for customers to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. An air-source heat pump uses around 75% environmental energy (air) and 25% electricity to provide heating and hot water.
As part of its commitment to implementing changes that foster a more sustainable future, the development will also incorporate various measures to enhance the area for local wildlife and improve biodiversity. These features will include bug hotels, bee bricks, bird boxes, and hedgehog highways.
Springhill Gardens is a vital component of the Barrhead South Masterplan, which will continue to offer various benefits to the broader local community. The masterplan encompasses a new railway station, upgrades to transport systems, and enhancements to the Dams to Darnley Country Park. Additionally, it will provide 8.5% of entry-level homes for sale in accordance with East Renfrewshire Council’s planning policy.
Martin Findlay, technical director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning consent from East Renfrewshire Council for 125 new homes, which allows us to expand our range of new homes for customers in Barrhead, and follows our agreement with another developer to buy the land.
“It is also an important step for our business to be building a development without gas heating and incorporating sustainable features to make our homes warm and comfortable. In addition to offering air source heat pumps, these homes will also feature energy-saving elements, including wastewater heat recovery and EV charging points.
“We are pleased to have started our programme of pre-construction works, and we plan to launch the first new homes for sale early next year. As well as the provision of substantial community benefits, this marks a significant step in bringing this parcel of the Barrhead South masterplan forward and demonstrates our commitment to continue to invest in the local area.”
