Wheatley issues last call for home-buying initiative
Wheatley Homes Glasgow is urging homeowners to act quickly as its programme to buy homes to create more affordable housing for people in urgent need enters its final phase.
Backed by Scottish Government funding and Glasgow City Council, every property purchased will be refurbished as the initiative transforms properties into safe, affordable homes for social rent.
The programme closes in March 2026, meaning time is running out for homeowners who want to benefit from a fair market price and a straightforward, supportive sales process.
Wheatley is particularly keen to purchase properties in blocks and neighbourhoods where it already has homes, but it said that all property types and sizes will be considered.
Homeowners living in communities in which Wheatley has homes who are considering selling are encouraged to get in touch. All they need to do is have their home valued and Wheatley Homes can make a fair, no-obligation offer, even if the property is not yet on the market.
The initiative was announced by Wheatley in December, with backing from the cabinet secretary for housing, Màiri McAllan MSP.
Wheatley Homes Glasgow managing director Aisling Mylrea said: “Demand for social housing in Glasgow is huge. This project is one way we’re increasing the number of homes available to families and individuals on waiting lists.
“With Scottish Government support, we can buy homes directly from owners and make a real difference. Any homeowner who wishes is interested is urged to contact us as soon as possible.
“This new project is just one of the many different ways we are working to increase the number of available homes for social rent in the city, whether that’s thanks to our own new-build programme or buying directly from housing developers.”
