Edinburgh City Council has announced a public consultation on its short-term lets (STL) licensing policy this summer. The review, approved by the regulatory committee on Friday 21 June, aims to assess the policy's impact on residents and businesses since its introduction in 2023.

New statistics on Scotland's Short-Term Lets Licensing Scheme have revealed that local authorities received at least 23,576 applications for a short-term lets licence by the end of December 2023. Since the scheme opened on October 1st 2022, 14,539 short-term lets licence applications
Regulations have been laid in Parliament that provide technical updates to the short-term lets licensing scheme. Licensing was introduced in 2022 to provide assurance to guests on safety and quality, such as gas and electrical safety compliance and the suitability of hosts.
