Christmas comes early at the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre
The Halliday Foundation has been spreading festive cheer across the east end of Glasgow this Christmas, delivering vital community support from its new base at the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre.
In the run-up to Christmas, the charity will support 902 families with gifts, provide 350 Christmas dinners, and offer practical and emotional support to 400 individuals over the festive season. On Christmas Day itself, the Foundation will welcome over 120 people to the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre to enjoy a warm and welcoming Christmas dinner at the centre.
The festive programme marks a significant milestone for the Halliday Foundation as the new tenants of the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre, with the partnership already proving a major success in a very short period of time. The centre has quickly become a welcoming hub for the local community.
Staff from Reidvale Housing Association also joined in the festive effort, volunteering their time to help wrap Christmas presents for children and families, adding an extra layer of seasonal goodwill to the initiative.
The Halliday Foundation works in partnership with housing associations across the east end of Glasgow, supporting people facing financial hardship and social isolation through food provision, community meals and targeted support. Its presence at Reidvale builds on this wider commitment and strengthens the Neighbourhood Centre’s role as a welcoming, community-focused space.
The Christmas programme also included the Halliday Foundation’s first Christmas Fayre at the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre, which welcomed over 600 local people from the surrounding area. The event brought residents together to enjoy festive activities, food and a strong sense of community spirit, highlighting the positive impact the Foundation has made since taking up residency.
Julie Smilie, interim director at Reidvale Housing Association, said: “Seeing the Halliday Foundation in action at the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre has been genuinely inspiring. The dedication and hard work of their staff and volunteers is clear to see, they are so often the first ones in and the last ones out of the building, going above and beyond to make sure people feel welcome and supported.
“In a very short space of time they have created a warm, purposeful space that is already making a real difference to local people, and we are incredibly excited about working more closely with the Halliday Foundation as this partnership continues to grow.”
Chris Halliday, chief executive officer of the Halliday Foundation, added: “Christmas can be a really difficult time for many people, which is why creating welcoming spaces and practical support is so important.
“Being based at the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre has allowed us to reach more families and individuals than ever before, and the support from Reidvale Housing Association has been fantastic. We are proud to work alongside housing associations across the east end of Glasgow, and we are excited about what we can achieve together as we continue to grow.”
Reidvale Housing Association and the Halliday Foundation have thanked staff, volunteers and partners who have helped make Christmas brighter for local people, demonstrating the power of strong community partnerships during the festive season.
