Halliday Foundation officially opens at Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre
Reidvale Housing Association has marked a significant milestone in its regeneration plans with the official opening of the Halliday Foundation at the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre in Dennistoun.
The development follows a year long process to identify a community partner capable of leading a sustainable, community-focused operating model for the Centre. After a competitive assessment, the Halliday Foundation, a Glasgow-based charity known for its work tackling poverty and isolation, was confirmed as the preferred organisation.
The Foundation will now manage the day-to-day running of the Neighbourhood Centre and deliver a programme of activities shaped by the needs of local residents. The partnership is a key strand of Reidvale Housing Association’s Community Investment Strategy, which sets out a 10-year approach to strengthening neighbourhood assets and supporting community wellbeing.
Reidvale Housing Association chair, Denise Dempsey, said the appointment represents an important step in the Centre’s development: “Reidvale has always valued its community assets and we were determined to find a partner who shares our commitment to local people.
“The Halliday Foundation’s experience, compassion and understanding of the issues facing our tenants and residents stood out. We are pleased to see them officially established in the Centre and look forward to working together to ensure it continues to thrive.”
Chris Halliday, CEO of the Halliday Foundation, said the organisation is committed to making the Centre a welcoming, inclusive and well used space: “We are delighted to be part of Reidvale and to have the opportunity to lead the Neighbourhood Centre. Our priority is to listen to the community and to build activities and services that make a positive difference.
“We want local residents, groups, social enterprises and organisations to see this as their space. Whether people want to drop in, volunteer, take part in activities or book a room for meetings or events, we encourage them to get in touch. This building should be a resource for the whole neighbourhood and we are very keen to see it well used.”
The Centre has long acted as a hub for social, recreational and educational activities, as well as housing Reidvale Housing Association’s offices. With almost 900 homes in its stock and more than 450 local members, the Association’s new strategic focus emphasises community development, partnership working and the long-term sustainability of local facilities.
The Halliday Foundation plans to introduce a phased programme of activities over the coming months, including support services, volunteering opportunities, family programmes and collaborative projects with local groups. The Foundation will also establish clear routes for residents and organisations to enquire about bookings and using the Centre’s facilities.
