Cassiltoun Housing Association has announced the early retirement of Fiona McGowan, a highly respected leader whose remarkable career in housing spans more than four decades.

Fiona began her housing career over 40 years ago with Glasgow City Council, starting in May 1983 as a clerk in Easterhouse before moving to Parkhead in 1988. Her skills were quickly recognised, leading to a series of promotions. In 1992, Fiona secured her first managerial role as allocations manager and went on to hold positions including housing officer and participation and development officer.

In 2000, Fiona worked with the team delivering the stock transfer of properties from Glasgow City Council to Glasgow Housing Association, and in 2003, she became community housing manager for Castle Stuart, the local housing organisation in Castlemilk.

As part of the Second Stage Transfer in 2009, Fiona joined Cassiltoun Housing Association, where her leadership and expertise continued to help shape services to tenants and operational performance. In 2012, she was appointed director of operations, a role in which she has continued to champion high quality services to tenants and wider improvements for the estate and the community of Castlemilk.

Chairperson Anna Stuart MBE said: “Fiona’s contribution to housing in Glasgow and to Cassiltoun has been extraordinary. Her dedication and knowledge have helped to shape our organisation and ensure that we are an exceptional community-based social housing provider. We thank Fiona for her outstanding service and wish her every happiness in her well-deserved retirement.”

Clair Malpas, CEO, added: “Fiona has been a cornerstone of Cassiltouns’s success for the past 16 years. Her leadership and commitment to excellence have ensured that our tenants receive the highest standard of service.

“In her time at Cassiltoun, she has championed service improvements, tenant involvement and staff development. She leaves behind a strong legacy that will continue to inform and guide us.”

Cassiltoun Housing Association will ensure a smooth transition and share further updates in due course.
