Housing professionals gather for Share’s Corporate Governance and HR Conference
Housing professionals from across Scotland gathered at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel in Edinburgh on Thursday 6th November for Share’s Corporate Governance and HR Conference.
The event offered practical insights and strategies to strengthen governance, support colleagues and embed inclusive practices across housing organisations.
Share, Scotland’s leading learning and development organisation for the housing and property sector, delivers training, qualifications and events that help individuals and organisations achieve excellence.
The day opened with Sarah Stewart, Time Management Coach, who inspired delegates with her keynote ‘Getting More Time for the Things That Matter’.
Sarah encouraged delegates to approach time as something they can plan and shape, rather than just manage. She explained how creating structure can help build stable systems, and support balance in work and personal life. Her engaging and reflective session set the tone for a day of interactive learning and open discussion.
Morning workshops addressed key challenges for the housing sector, including a regulatory update focused on the Housing (Scotland) Bill, compliance with Awaab’s Law, and developing inclusive communication practices. The workshops were hosted by sector experts James McMorrow of Harper Macleod, Eileen McCallum of McCallum Training, and Kim Hartley Kean of Communication Inclusion People.
Delegates also enjoyed visiting exhibitor stands, including Beatson Cancer Charity, Aileen Carson Coaching and Communication Inclusion People, which offered additional information and resources.
In the afternoon, delegates explored the role of effective boards and leadership in driving organisational success. Alison Smith, Allanpark Consultants, shared strategies for recruiting board members with the right skills and mindset, while Ashleigh Scott and Steph Muir from Beatson Cancer Charity, highlighted the importance of empathy and communication when supporting colleagues through difficult times.
The conference concluded with Rory Cowan, Partner at BKF & Co, who offered practical advice on protecting organisational reputations in a digital world.
Share has thanked all delegates for attending and extended its gratitude to the speakers and exhibitors for their expertise and contributions, which made the day such a success.
