Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) has appointed Maria Lyle as its new chief executive.
Maria will take up the role in May 2026, succeeding outgoing chief executive Julia Mulloy, who has served with dedication and distinction over the last 16 years and will be supporting a smooth transition over the coming months.
With an established track record in strategic leadership, Maria brings over 30 years’ experience in social housing, holding a broad portfolio of roles. She brings a wealth of expertise in organisational transformation, culture change and improving tenant and community outcomes.
Since 2021, Maria has served as SBHA’s chief operating officer, overseeing organisational performance, governance, asset management and digital transformation.
Ian McDonald, chair of SBHA’s board of management, said: “After a rigorous competitive recruitment process, the board of management is delighted to appoint Maria Lyle as our new chief executive. Maria brings proven leadership capability and a deep understanding of the organisation and our values, with a genuine commitment to tenants and communities.

I am excited to build on this strong foundation - strengthening partnerships, deepening our impact in communities and ensuring we continue to deliver high‑quality services for tenants across the Scottish Borders.”
SBHA confirmed that its strategic priorities remain focused on delivering its 2025-30 Building Our Impact and Creating Growth Strategic Plan commitments, continuing to invest in homes, services and communities across the Scottish Borders.
