Milnbank begins work on new homes at former Haghill Primary School site
Milnbank Housing Association has announced the start of work on new homes for social rent at the former Haghill Primary School.
The JR Group has commenced construction works on site, with the development scheduled for completion in November 2027. The project will deliver 48 high-quality, energy-efficient homes for social rent, helping to meet local housing needs and support the continued regeneration of the local area.
The development will include 43 general needs homes, four wheelchair-accessible amenity properties, and the renovation of the former Janitor’s House to modern standards. The scheme has been designed to a high standard, with a strong focus on energy efficiency, accessibility, and quality of living.
Allan Scott, chairman of Milnbank Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to see this development finally begin on the former Haghill Primary School site. These homes will help address significant housing supply issues in the local area and will help meet a wide range of housing needs.”
The total project value is £12.4 million and is being funded through a mix of private finance and funding support for the development comes from Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government. The development forms a key part of Milnbank Housing Association’s investment programme, which will increase housing supply and improve housing standards.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for Housing and Development at Glasgow City Council, said: “The development of the site at the former Haghill Primary is another great example of the homes that are being built in Glasgow now.
“The homes will meet the needs of a wide range of people and families and bring back the Janitor’s House to productive use. These much needed and high-quality new homes for social rent will improve the quality of life of everyone who lives in them and will contribute to the regeneration of Haghill.”
Gary McGregor, managing director of The JR Group, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this project and for the trust the Housing Association have bestowed on our fantastic team. We are acutely aware of the importance of this project for the community and local residents, and we look forward to a successful partnership.
“In addition to providing new homes, the project will deliver wider community benefits, including improvements to the local environment and investment in a local community facility.”
