Moray Council renews commitment to housing standards and tenant safety

Moray Council has once again reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality housing services with a focus on tenant safety in publishing its latest annual Assurance Statement.

The statement was signed yesterday by Housing and Community Safety Committee chair, Councillor Amber Dunbar and depute chair, Councillor Paul McBain, following its approval at committee.

The Assurance Statement explains how well the council is meeting the standards expected of social landlords. It shows where goals are fully met, and outlines steps being taken to improve.

The statement shows that Moray Council continues to make progress on key safety standards like fire safety, gas servicing, and carbon monoxide detection. It also highlights ongoing work to improve housing quality and energy efficiency, backed by a £16.7 million investment

The Scottish Social Housing Charter, introduced under the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010, establishes the standards that all social landlords must meet to ensure tenants receive high-quality, value-for-money housing services.

Councillor Dunbar said: “Tenants deserve to feel safe and secure in their homes, and this Assurance Statement reflects our continued commitment to delivering the high standards they expect. We’re proud of the progress made and remain focused on making further improvements, especially in safety, energy efficiency, and housing quality.”

The Assurance Statement will now be submitted to the Scottish Housing Regulator and considered as part of its annual risk assessment.

An updated engagement plan for Moray Council will be published by the Regulator by 31 March 2026.
