New energy advisor to join Cassiltoun to combat fuel poverty

Cassiltoun Housing Association has secured funding from the Energy Savings Trust via the Energy Redress Scheme to employ an energy advisor to join its advice team.

By offering direct assistance to individuals who struggle to heat their homes, the project will help all new and current tenants, factored owners, and service users of Cassiltoun Housing, Stables Nursery, and Cassiltoun’s community groups live in a comfortable and safe environment over the course of the project.

The energy advisor will work with households, most of which are low-income and at risk of fuel debt and poverty. In order to lower household energy costs, they will work closely with these clients to comprehend and obtain reasonable rates, inform them of their bills, and promote behavioural adjustments to help with fuel arrears and complicated, long-standing energy problems.

In order to maximise income, the Energy Advisor will collaborate closely with the current advice team. The advisor will also help people maintain their tenancy by locating and applying for benefits, appropriate grants, and other financial aid to help with debts and fuel consumption.

Cassiltoun’s advice coordinator, Anne Miller, hailed the project as “another step forward in the battle against fuel poverty”.

She continued: “The Cassiltoun Advice Team support residents in their homes and this is a huge advancement to our team. Without a doubt, one of the largest issues our customers deal with while residing in their house is fuel poverty.”

Housing manager Clare MacLean added: “Our tenants deal with fuel poverty on a daily basis, this new project will have a significant impact to combat the threat of fuel poverty and enhance tenancy sustainment.”

The project will last for two years, having begun in March. The service will be accessible to all service users.
