Riverside Scotland, in partnership with repairs contractor Bell Group and social enterprise CEIS Ayrshire, has delivered a transformative community project aimed at supporting unemployed young people while enhancing a valued local facility.

As part of Bell’s commitment to Riverside customers, they delivered their House to Home initiative, through this, three young people were given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by redecorating the main hall at The Playz community facility in Pennyburn, Kilwinning. The project not only refreshed a key community space but also provided the participants with valuable skills in painting and decorating.

The young people’s commitment and enthusiasm throughout the project impressed everyone involved. As a result, they are now being considered for apprenticeship opportunities with Bell Group, offering a potential pathway into long-term employment.

Pamela Forrest, head of housing & communities at Riverside Scotland, highlighted the deeper impact of the initiative, emphasising that it’s about much more than a fresh coat of paint.

She said: “We’re incredibly proud to be working alongside Bell and CEIS Ayrshire on this House to Home project. It’s a fantastic example of how partnership working can deliver real benefits – not just for our communities, but for individuals too.

“Seeing young people gain practical experience, grow in confidence, and now be considered for apprenticeships is exactly the kind of outcome we strive for. It’s about creating opportunities, building skills, and supporting brighter futures.”

Joan Gibson, skills and training manager at CEIS Ayrshire highlighted the importance of creating real opportunities for young people: “At CEIS Ayrshire, we’re passionate about helping young people unlock their potential.

“Projects like this not only give them practical experience but also a sense of pride and purpose. It’s fantastic to see them gaining skills that could lead to long-term employment.”

Willy Duffy, a volunteer at The Playz, praised the initiative: “The young people worked hard to get the job done, and we’re delighted to be part of this initiative encouraging local youth into employment. Thanks to everyone involved in setting this up – we now have a refreshed space to enjoy and wish the boys well with future opportunities.”

Bell emphasised their commitment to wider role initiatives and apprenticeships. Angela Cree, community engagement coordinator, who led on the project, said: “We believe in the power of wider role initiatives to create real social value.

“Working with our clients to support young people into apprenticeships is a key part of our mission and has been since the business was formed in 1984, not only to grow the future workforce, but to improve their social mobility status and give individuals the chance to build meaningful careers.

“We’re very proud of our House to Home Initiative and the outcomes it can bring to those who and look forward to seeing what these young people do next.”

This collaboration demonstrates the power of partnership in creating real, lasting impact – supporting both community development and youth employment.
