Taylor Wimpey begins work at development near Bonnyrigg

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland is to progress its Bannock Wood neighbourhood near Bonnyrigg following the submission of several Applications for Matters Specified in Conditions (AMSCs) to Midlothian Council.

Three AMSCs were lodged earlier this year after Taylor Wimpey received planning permission in principle (PPiP) for the development in February.

Significant milestones have now been reached, including planning consent and work starting to construct a new roundabout at Rosewell Road, which will form part of the key transport infrastructure for the development. These essential works mark a significant step forward in preparing the site for future phases of construction.

In addition, the housebuilder is currently awaiting the first residential planning approval, which will enable the delivery of over 360 new homes. These will include a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom private homes, alongside 25% affordable housing comprising two and three-bedroom homes, one and two-bedroom apartments, and cottage flats.

As Bannock Wood progresses, Taylor Wimpey said the development will bring a wide range of benefits to the local community, including:

  • Around 1,000 new homes with a variety of detached, semi-detached, and terraced options
  • Provision of open space and community facilities
  • 25% affordable homes and apartments
  • New cycleways, pedestrian footpaths, and realignment of existing bridleways and core paths to promote green, active travel and connectivity
  • Protection and enhancement of Little Wood to create a green corridor with linked informal paths
  • Key transport improvements including two new roundabouts and a facilitated bus route
  • A new public park, Dalhousie Chesters Park, featuring a large equipped play area.

Pauline Mills, technical director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to have secured planning consent for the roundabout at Rosewell Road and to have begun works for this on site. These are vital steps in delivering the infrastructure that will support the Bannock Wood neighbourhood.

“We now look forward to receiving the first residential planning approval and beginning construction on the first phase of new homes. The vision for Bannock Wood is becoming a reality, and we’re excited about the positive impact this development will have on the local community.”
