Share hosted its Young Housing Professionals’ (YHP) Conference on Thursday, 19th March, bringing together early career professionals from across the housing sector.

The event forms part of Share’s Young Housing Professionals’ Network, established in 2023 to support those who have worked in housing for less than 10 years, offering training, networking and professional development opportunities.

The conference gave attendees the chance to exchange ideas, hear different perspectives and build relationships with others working in the sector.

The day began with a welcome and icebreaker session hosted by the Share team, where attendees discussed topics including career progression, tenant engagement, community development, and policy and regulation. This session gave delegates the opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges and learn from others working in a range of roles.

The morning keynote was delivered by Sharon Smith, founder of Own Your Leadership. Her session, Self-Leadership Is Your Real Superpower, explored the importance of taking ownership of your identity, choices and energy, encouraging delegates to set boundaries, build confidence and lead with authenticity.

Following lunch, Jonathan Giddings-Reid, Community Regeneration Officer at Elderpark Housing, brought energy and humour to his session, drawing on over 30 years of experience in community engagement and project management. He shared practical approaches to community engagement and encouraged young professionals to play an active part in working with communities, regardless of role or seniority.
