Share’s Inspiring Leadership Conference returned this week at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central, bringing together new and experienced leaders from across the housing sector for a full day of learning and networking.

The event featured a packed programme designed to support leadership at every level. Kelly Brown, director at Places for People, opened the day by sharing his own journey of building confidence, taking opportunities, and stepping into leadership, a message that resonated with all attendees. He also highlighted the “behind-the-scenes effort” in leadership, reminding everyone that success depends not just on visible achievements but on teamwork, resilience, and dedication behind the scenes.

Lucy Carpenter, compassionate employers lead at Hospice UK, delivered a thought-provoking session on the importance of supporting employees, particularly through significant life moments. She highlighted practical ways leaders can support their teams, from offering empathy during personal challenges to fostering a workplace culture that balances productivity with well-being. Attendees were encouraged to consider how compassion and understanding can strengthen teams, boost morale, and improve organisational resilience, making her session a standout of the day.

Delegates also took part in a range of workshops designed to provide practical insights and fresh perspectives. Sessions included intent-based leadership, motivational supervision, communicating as a leader, authentic leadership, wellbeing, and neurodiversity.

The conference closed with a lively panel discussion on What is the ‘Ideal Leader’? Does this exist?, featuring Nicola Dillon, Nigel Fortnum, David Potter, and Jennifer Cairns. The panel explored their personal heroes in leadership, debated whether some leaders are “born” or shaped through experience, and considered how introverted individuals can thrive in leadership roles. Their insights sparked a lively discussion on what makes an “Ideal” leader in today’s housing sector.

Share extended its thanks to all speakers, facilitators, delegates, and exhibitors for their contributions to the Inspiring Leadership Conference. “Your engagement and support made the event a great success,” it said.
